OLD BRISTOLIANS HOCKEY CLUB STATEMENT
1. The Name, Location, Objectives and Type of Club
1.1 The name of the Club is Old Bristolians Hockey Club (OBHC). The Club does not
have a formal constitution but is operated through elected officers and membership.
The Club is a member of the Old Bristolians Sports Club Ltd, a not for profit
organisation, which is affiliated to the Old Bristolians Society.
1.2 The Club is situated in the County of North Somerset and is affiliated to England
Hockey through West Hockey.
1.3 The objectives of the Club are;
a. Provide a safe and enjoyable environment for people of all ages and abilities
to play hockey.
b. The recruitment and development of people of all ages and ethnic
background into the sport of hockey as players, leaders/coaches, umpires
c. The provision of playing, leading/coaching, umpiring and administrative
opportunities at a participation, development and performance level.
d. To provide equity of opportunity across all areas of the club, to encourage
inclusion by minority groups.
e. To provide a safe, effective and child friendly environment in which to play
and learn hockey.
f. To provide an inclusive environment for people of all ages to socialise and
contribute to the growth and longevity of the hockey club.
g. Through affiliation and membership of the Old Bristolians Society and Sports
Club work to promote the participation in all sports at the Club, namely
Rugby, Hockey and Cricket. Through involvement provide a permanent
memorial to the former Old Bristolians who gave their lives in World Wars I
1.4 The Club is a member’s club open to all.
2.1 Membership is open to anyone above the age of 6 who is interested in playing,
coaching or volunteering in hockey.
2.2 The types of membership and associated fees will be as agreed at the Club’s Annual

3. Sports Equity
3.1 This Club is committed to ensuring that equity is incorporated across all aspects of its
development. In doing so it acknowledges and adopts the following Sport England
definition of sports equity:
Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising
inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and
structure of sport to ensure it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society.
3.2 The Club respects the rights, dignity and worth of every person and will treat
everyone equally within the context of their sport, regardless of age, ability, gender,
race, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality or social/economic status.
3.3 The Club is committed to everyone having the right to enjoy their sport in an
environment free from threat of intimidation, harassment and abuse.
3.4 All club members have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory behaviour and
promote equality of opportunity.
3.5 The Club will deal with any incidence of discriminatory behaviour seriously, according
to club disciplinary procedures
4.1 The affairs of the Club shall be managed by the Committee of OBHC, except for
matters reserved for the club in the Annual General Meeting.
4.2 OBHC Committee shall consist of Chairperson, Vice Chairperson(s), Treasurer,
Captains, Head of Juniors, Social Secretary(s), Umpire Secretary, Fixtures
Secretary(s), Membership secretary, Communications secretary, Web & Club
Management and Welfare Officer, who shall be elected by the Club in the Annual
4.3 The President of the Club is an ex-officio member of the Committee and provides
guidance to the Chair and engages in Extraordinary General Meetings where
4.4 OBHC Committee may appoint one or more additional members of OBHC Committee
or advisers as necessary to fulfil its business.
4.5 The elected Chairman and Treasurer of the Club shall be the signatories for all
payments made by the Club.
4.6 The OBHC committee has the ability to set rules and adopt new policy for the Club to
operate, as changing circumstances require. This will also be in line with the rules
and management of the Old Bristolians Sports Club.
4.7 The Committee will be responsible for disciplinary hearings of members who infringe
the club rules/regulations/constitution. The Committee will be responsible for taking
any action of suspension or discipline following such hearings.
4.8 The committee meetings will be convened by the Chairman of the Club and be held
no less than 6 times per year.
4.9 Only the posts listed above will have the right to vote at committee meetings.
5.1 The Treasurer in consultation with OBHC Committee shall be responsible for
recording all financial income and expenditure of the Club. The Treasurer will present
the accounts at each Annual General Meeting of the Club.
5.2 The financial year of the Club will run from September1
st to August 31st
5.3 All Club monies will be banked in an account held in the name of OBHC.
5.4 Any cheques drawn against club funds should hold the signatures of the treasurer
plus up to two other officers.
6. Annual General Meeting & Extraordinary General
6.1 Annual General Meeting of the Club shall be held annually at the end of the season.
6.2 Items to be resolved at each AGM shall include:
Election of the new committee
Reports from Captains, Chairman and Treasurer
Financial review including membership fees and subscription setting
Any other business raised
6.3 Notice of the time of the Annual General Meeting shall be posted for a period of at
least 14 days before the date of such a meeting.
6.4 Nominations for Committee members will be requested and received prior to the AGM
6.5 An Extraordinary General Meeting may be called at any time by OBHC Committee or
by at least 20% of Club members making a written request to OBHC Committee for
such a meeting, with at least 14 days notice.
6.6 Every member of the Club shall be entitled to be present and to vote at any General
Meeting of the Club and should there be equality on any voting issue the Chairman of
the meeting shall have the casting vote.
7. Discipline & Appeals
7.1 All concerns, allegations or reports of poor practice/abuse relating to the welfare of
children and young people will be recorded and responded to swiftly and
appropriately in accordance with the club’s child protection policy and procedures.
The Club Welfare Officer is the lead contact for all members in the event of any child
7.2 All complaints regarding the behaviour of members should be presented and
submitted in writing to the Chairman.
7.3 Representatives from the Committee will meet to hear complaints within 14 days of a
complaint being lodged. The Committee has the power to take appropriate
disciplinary action including the termination of membership.
7.4 The outcome of a disciplinary hearing should be notified in writing to the person who
lodged the complaint and the member against whom the complaint was made within
7 days of the hearing.
7.5 There will be the right of appeal to the Committee following disciplinary action being
announced. The Committee should consider the appeal within 10 days of the
Committee receiving the appeal.
8. Dissolution of the Club
8.1 If the Club shall pass in General Meeting, by a majority comprising two-thirds or more
of the members present and entitled to vote, a resolution of intention to dissolve the
Club, OBHC Committee shall take immediate steps to convert all of the assets of the
Club into money.
8.2 The proceeds of the conversion shall be used by OBHC Committee firstly to
discharge all the debts and liabilities of the Club. The OBHC Committee will then
ensure any balance be passed into the Old Bristolians Sports Club.
